That's a question the LASD will have to answer.
It appears that a group of deputies known as the "Jump Out Boys" may view officer-involved shootings as a badge of honor. This latest scandal out of the LASD was prompted by a document indicating that deputies may gain respect from from involvement in deadly force police shootings.
The Jump Out Boys are part of the LASD's elite gang unit, which ranks near the top of LASD units in deadly force police shootings.
Another group of rogue deputies -- known for the 3000 floor they work at Men's Central Jail -- are also being investigated for apparently earning rank within their clique through inmate beatings.
