According to a report in Voice of Kibera, the new Independent Policing Oversight Authority will have offices in 47 counties and will "upgrade the police operations and handling of complaints by the public against the law enforcers."
The Voice of Kibera is one of many community-led initiatives forging a brighter future for Kibera and Kenya. Participants use citizen journalism, community mapping and creative expression among other advocacy tools.
In terms of the global rule of law and police brutality perspective, Kenyan officials have been indicted by the ICC for crimes against humanity in connection with 2007 post-election violence where over 1000 people were killed and hundreds of thousands displaced.
