In general it is legal to engage in photographing cops in performance of their public duties (and photographing police brutality) so long as it is done in an open and non-interfering manner.
But as a local copwatcher now knows all too well, not all cops like it. Raven Williams, the daughter of a cop, claims she was met with police brutality while copwatching and arrested on trumped up obstruction and drug charges in apparent retaliation.
Williams also claims some of her footage was deleted while in police hands, as happened recently to a news reporter in New Mexico.
The only somewhat good news to emerge from the story is that Ms. Williams reports that for the most part cops have been respectful of her copwatching activities.
